An Army Post was Attacked in Merauke Border

Jakarta – Army Border Security Post at Merauke Province, Papua, was attacked by unidentified men. One army soldier was badly wounded on his shoulder and waist.

In the release from Army Headquarter, Friday (14/01/2011), the attacked border security unit was Infantry Battalion 132 of Operation Command 17/XVII called Nasem Post.


Army men were doing their routine cleaning and preparing for patrol around 5.45 WIT when suddenly three armed men attacked.

“When they know of the attack, army men of Nasem Post retaliated to secure the post and pursued attackers,” explained the release.

Casualty of this dawn attack was First Infantry Sukirman suffered injuries on his shoulder and waist from arrows. Meanwhile, two attackers were killed and one was captured.

“Weapons initially stolen by attackers were able to be recaptured,” added the release.

Sukirman was taken to Merauke Hospital. Captured attacker was then taken to the police station for further investigation.

Initial investigation revealed the names of two killed attackers; Amandius Basik-basik and Klemans Basik-basik. Meanwhile, the captured attacker’s name is William Basik-basik.
