A member of Brimob was shot at Puncak Jaya

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — A member of Brimob was shot dead by armed mob at Tingginambut, Puncak Jaya, Jayapura, on Wednesday, 24 June, at around 12.30 East Indonesian Time.


"The victim has been identified as Bripda Ahmad L," said PR division head of RI Police, Irjen Abubakar Nataprawira in Jakarta on Wednesday. Together with other Brimob members, he was part of the Kasat Brimob Polda Papua envoy to inspect a police post in Tingginambut.

Upon arrival at Sanoba village, Brimob was under attack by armed mob resulting in the death of Bripda Ahmad. The attack took place only fifty meters from Yonif 754 post.

Assault on police or army officer and post is a common occurrence in Tingginambut. On 15 April 2009, an armed mob attacked a Brimob group resulting in one death and seven injured. Having received medical attention in Jayapura, Bripda Musa died of gunshot wound in his head.

On 9 January 2009, another assault by armed mob at a police post injured a police wife. They raided four firearms belonging to the police. Another police post was also attacked on 21 February 2009 with no casualty. The armed mob also assaulted army post on 14 March 2009 killing an army officer.
