JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Indonesia Chief of Police General Bambang Hendarso Danuri said the police has captured another suspect of masterminding Abepura riot. He is believed to plan the attack in the area.

“Preliminary evidence showed them engaging in violent acts that we have started to investigate another suspect,” he said after a meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at Presidential office in Jakarta on Monday.

However, the Chief has refused to acknowledge if the captured suspects are part of Organisasi Papua Merdeka (Papua Independence Organisation). “No, we do not declare them part of OPM, we know they are armed mob who has violated the law and will be severely punished.”

He added that the mob attacked in a harsher and more radical way. “They’ve planned these attacks. Prior to election, there was an attack to the army post where an army officer was shot dead.”

Indonesia Commander in Chief General Djoko Santoso said the OPM attacks were reminders of their existence. “These attacks were to attract people’s attention that OPM still exist. How systematic their movements are is still under surveillance.”
